What Are The Common Causes of Spinal Stenosis

Arthritis

Osteoarthritis can happen in the spine as we get older, particularly in people with manual jobs. This type of arthritis can cause extra bone growth or bone spurs to develop.  This along with other changes can crowd the spinal canal causing Spinal Stenosis.

Herniated or Bulging Discs

Damage to the disc tissue between each vertebrae can cause it to change shape.  This can be a mild bulging or a herniation of disc tissue, causing it to press on the spinal canal and /or nerves, causing Stenosis.

Need Something More For Your Stenosis Pain?

You should consider IDD Therapy if:

  • You have ongoing or chronic neck pain, back pain or sciatica associated with Spinal Stenosis.
  • You have been diagnosed with a slipped, prolapsed or herniated disc that is stopping you from living your life.
  • You have been diagnosed with spinal stenosis and told that nothing can be done about it.
  • You are keen to avoid invasive spinal injections or surgery.
  • You are tired of the merry-go-round of NHS appointments, painkillers and waiting times.

So, what is IDD Therapy?

The video below will explain how IDD Therapy, a safe and gentle approach to back and neck pain, has helped 1000s of people in the UK break free from a cycle of painkillers and get back to normal life.

A Safe and Trusted Approach to Degenerative disc disease, Spinal Stenosis and Back Pain

Intervertebral Differential Dynamics (IDD) Therapy is a successful and trusted non surgical spinal decompression treatment for back pain, neck pain and related problems such as sciatica.

It is particularly useful to sufferers of:

  • Bulging, herniated and degenerative discs.
  • Spinal Stenosis.
  • Sciatica or trapped nerves.
  • Pain that hasn't improved with other approaches such as spinal injections.
  • Cases of chronic pain ongoing for more than 6 weeks.

The Spinal Stenosis IDD Program

Every day at The Ashgrove Clinic, Northampton, we treat patients just like you with our IDD Therapy Program

Step 1 - Targeted Treatment

IDD Therapy targets the specific area of your spine that is causing the pain using our highly accurate decompression technology.

The gentle decompression force is also a precisely calculated proportion of your body weight and is therefore specifically tailored to you.

Step 2 - Decompression

By decompressing (taking pressure off) a segment of your spine affected by stenosis and stretching the soft tissues, mobility in the spine can be improved.

This can relieve pain caused by muscle spasm, and alleviate nerve compression and irritation caused by herniated or prolapsed discs, that lead to spinal stenosis.

Step 3 - Restore Pain free Movement

Each session of decompression force is gently increased. This treatment progressively decompresses your spine allowing your range of movement to improve, so you can get back to doing the things you love without pain or restriction.

Is IDD Therapy Painful?

Patients do not typically feel any pain during treatment.  The treatment itself is actually quite gentle, it is not unusual for people to fall asleep during their decompression treatment.

The decompression pulling force used is set at a precise proportion of your body weight.  This means it is specific to you and therefore unlikely to cause any pain or discomfort.

The decompression forces used are built up slowly and gradually during the course of your treatment, depending on your history and how you are responding to treatment.

After your treatment, we apply a cold compress to the area, this helps to reduce any soreness after the treatment.  Some patients do report soreness similar to what you would expect after having hands on treatment, such as massage, but this generally gets less intense as the treatment course progresses.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Every case of back pain is different but typically takes place over a 6 to 8 week period.  This allows time for the body to adapt with the goal of gently improving and restoring normal spinal function.

The exact number of treatments required will depend on your specific condition and how your body responds to the decompression therapy.

While relief from pain can be experienced in the early stages of treatment, the body does not adjust over night, especially when chronic conditions may have built up over a long period of time.

Patient Journeys

“IDD really works! After 6 months in agony, taking 8 co-codamol a day, having had a spinal injection that didn’t work and barely being able to stand/walk, I was completely stuck. The Ashgrove team were just amazing, guiding me and reassuring me to trust the process. It took a while but I am now pain free and able to do normal daily activities like getting dressed unaided. I can now pick up my newborn baby which felt impossible before, everyone should try IDD.”

– Lily Bootman

“I attended the clinic after two years of back pain, I’d tried everything and was just throwing money at the problem, desperately. I decided to have one last try, before I considered surgery. I signed up for IDD therapy with Ashgrove - 24 sessions plus physio rehab. It was slow to take effect to begin with, but once I coupled it with the rehab I noticed a dramatic improvement. Now I’ve finished the treatment I can look forward to getting on with life again, pain free. It’s a huge commitment, IDD therapy, but I’d recommend it to anyone in my position. The team are very professional and friendly, which made the hours go a lot quicker (it’s a lot of lying down).”

– Andy Hills

“I found out about IDD after going on reddit and asking in desperation if there was any hope to helping with chronic pain, after a heavy fall down the stairs 8 years ago. I've had MRI, CT scans, numerous painkillers, but nothing was removing the constant nerve pain from impingement of the nerve from my back to my toes. When i spoke to the the team at Ashgrove I told them that all `i wanted to do was be able to get more sleep than I was, and less pain. From the first session my daughter already noticed my walking was better I have now finished treatment, I can roll over in bed, I can get more sleep, I can walk round shops without having to stop all the time, and I'm not having cold sweats most of the day . To say my life has hope now is an understaement. For me I have hope , I can look forward to going places again and, most importantly, I'm not in pain all the time. My family and friends and I are so grateful .”

– B Dark

“When I first came to Ashgrove Clinic to try IDD treatment I felt it was a last throw of the dice before spinal surgery. I was suffering constant leg and lower back pain and an MRI scan showed spinal stenosis and bulging discs which were impacting nearby nerves. Physio had helped with mobility but the pain was still there and walking, standing and lifting were all difficult. I’m not given to hyperbole but the treatment I’ve received here really has been life-changing. The constant pain is just a memory, I can walk for miles again, standing to work or chat is no longer painful and I can lift and carry things. I’d never have attempted before IDD. Thank you, Ashgrove Clinic.”

– Allan Smith
