And why isn't yours getting better?

Tennis elbow (previously known as lateral epicondylitis) is now known as epicondylalgia and produces:
- Pain on the outside of the elbow.
- Pain on lifting and twisting movements.
- Pain may also occur at night when the arm is at rest.
- Pain gripping.Â
On the outside of the elbow joint is an area where lots of different tendons from the forearm insert onto the same area of bone. In cases of tennis elbow this "common insertion point" becomes very painful.
It can be caused by trauma such as a fall or impact to the area, but is more commonly caused by overuse or repetitive movements such as using hand tools, free weights or racquet sports like tennis.
We constantly use our elbow in everyday movements making it quite tricky to rest. Untreated tennis elbow can last weeks, months or longer.
The Halifax Tennis Elbow Program
Here at Clayton Park Physiotherapy and University Physiotherapy in Halifax, we have helped 1000's of patients just like you with our 3 Step Tennis Elbow Program
1 - Reduce Your Pain
This step begins with a comprehensive assessment to make sure we target what is causing the pain whether this be a:
- tendon,
- muscle
- or joint problem,
- or a combination of these.
This is followed by a hands-on treatment tailored to your case.

2 - Restore Normal Range of Movement
Your treatment plan will progress to focus on the range and quality of movement in elbow joint and get it back in tip top shape.
This may include but will not be limited to:
- Soft and deep tissue techniques to the muscles in the area.
- Mobilization techniques to improve your quality and range of movement, to gently start to get you moving again.
- Dry Needling to reduce pain and inflammation
3 - Rehabilitation
Whether your goal is to be able to:
- Lift your children again.
- Get back to the gym.
- Sleep through the night.
Our 3rd step is vital to making sure that you have the strength in the muscles around your elbow joint, to get back to doing the things you love without pain or restriction.
This will involve a tailored combination of stretching and strengthening rehabilitation techniques based on the latest research.
